Welcome!

Congratulations to all of you for getting a place to study at Cardiff uni!

We've just finished our first year and although it was a fantastic year, it was tough at times. We want to make your transition into Uni life as easy as possible, so please ask us anything you want.

Maybe you want to know what halls are like, what societies are worth joining, what books to buy, where on earth to go on your first day, the best pub, or whether you're really going to be living off baked beans for a year! We'll try to answer any questions you have as quickly as possible, and if we don't know the answer we'll go on a hunt for someone who does!

We hope you're all looking forward to moving to Cardiff in the next few weeks and starting your uni life - we're looking forward to meeting at least some of you during freshers!

Enjoy your last week of freedom before term begins,
Lydia & Lucy

Hi Alicia

Hi Alicia,
My name is Ellie and I am a Second year Zoology student. You will probably see me around a bit next year because I am Treasurer for the Bioscience Society so I will be popping into your letures to promote many events and socials that you should be attending :).
Even though I am not doing a Biology degree the first year is the same for all biological degrees. In my opinion the course is excellent, if covers aspects of biology from plants and animals to gentics and microbiology. The biosci builing is very easy to find, it is in the main bit of the uni. From Talybont north this is probably about a 20min walk along north road, simples :). Books wise if you wait until you get to uni and then go to the blackwells book shop in the union they will be doing some form of deal on the required books. Otherwise there will be final year students/recent graduate selling their unwanted books.
Hope this was useful and see you later this month.
Ellie.

Hey :D

Hey, My name's Alicia and i'm starting the biology course this year :D I cannot Wait.
I hope you don't mind answering some of my questions!
I'm staying in Talybont North and wondering the distance to the bioscience building? Is it easy to find, hope it's not to much of a walk lol!
The books I need for the first year, i've been looking on amazon and they are like £4o each, will it be beneficial to me to wait and go to the book store on campus or ask any 2nd years if their selling their books?
Was also wondering what you think of the course, does it cover all aspects of biology well in your opinion?

Thanks!
Alicia

Hello from the Undergraduate Office

Hello,

Just wanted to quickly introduce myself. My name is Rhian and I work at the Undergraduate Office in the School of Biosciences. I mainly deal with Year 1 administration (e.g marks, practical registers). I am here to deal with any general questions you may have about anything relating to your course, finding your way around the building, how to contact staff or anything else you may think of.

You can either contact me via the blog or on my email address which is thomasr66@cardiff.ac.uk.

See you soon
Rhian
